Answering your top questions about videography, content creation, and the unique, experience-driven insights you'll find here at Splendor Media.

Q1: As a beginner, what editing software should I learn first: Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve?

This is one of the biggest questions I get, and the short answer is DaVinci Resolve. While I use Premiere Pro and After Effects professionally (and I’ll teach them here!), Resolve offers an incredible free version that is powerful enough to handle 90% of your projects, including professional color grading. Start with Resolve to master the fundamental principles of editing without paying a monthly subscription. Once you understand the fundamentals, transitioning to Premiere Pro or Final Cut is much easier.

Q2: My footage looks dull and boring. What is the single most important factor for getting a professional-looking video?

It's not your camera; it's the lighting. A $50 light, correctly positioned, will make a bigger difference than upgrading from a $1,000 camera to a $5,000 camera. On this blog, we spend a lot of time on behind-the-scenes lighting breakdowns. We focus on simple, affordable setups, like using natural light or basic three-point setups that instantly elevate your video quality from amateur to professional. Start paying attention to where your light is coming from, and everything changes.

Q3: You've worked with big clients like Tranont and Pure Health. How do I, as a beginner, start getting paid clients?

Getting paid is less about having a perfect portfolio and more about understanding the value proposition. Clients don't buy video; they buy solutions to their business problems (like increasing sales or boosting awareness). Focus your pitch on what you can solve for them, not just what you can shoot. Start small with local businesses, offer speculative content to build trust, and always define clear contracts—something we’ll break down in detail here on the blog.

Q4: Since you play in a metal band, do you only focus on creative/cinematic videography, or do you cover corporate and client work too?

While I absolutely love the artistic freedom of cinematic and music video projects, most of my professional experience comes from corporate, social media, and client-based work. My blog is built around this blend. I treat every corporate ad with the same creative rigor as a music video. You'll get the best of both worlds: technical, professional tips on high-quality delivery and artistic techniques inspired by the music and art world to make even the most mundane client project visually dynamic.

Q5: I’m interested in post-production. What types of editing skills will I learn on this blog?

We dive deep into the entire post-production process. This isn't just about quick cuts; we cover color grading (making your footage look cinematic), motion graphic animation (using After Effects for titles and visual flair), and most importantly, audio capture and cleanup. Clean audio is crucial for professionalism, and we ensure that we cover best practices for capturing and mixing sound so your videos always sound as good as they look.
